Dolph Ziggler recently spoke to Chris Van Vliet to clear everything up. The Show Off has given fifteen years of his life to WWE, but it looks like he is stepping away for a bit. He has a lot of other opportunities as well which he is taking full advantage of.
The former WWE Champion stated that he is still under contract with WWE, but we shouldn’t expect to see him at the Royal Rumble because he is not booked to be at Chase Field on Sunday. Instead, he is booked for a comedy show a couple of blocks away.
“Technically I am still under contract, but I am not scheduled to be at the Royal Rumble tomorrow. I have a show after at Stand-Up Live.”
Dolph Ziggler is working under a very different WWE contract. He explained how his life is complicated and WWE has allowed him the freedom to pursue stand-up comedy interests as well as other things. This means that he has a handshake agreement with Vince McMahon so he can take part in those other activities outside of the company.
“It becomes a gray area because I have a weird life even for a wrestler so as of now there’s a couple different handshake agreements involved in some things sometimes it’s not written on paper, so I’ve been very able to do outside projects. Movies, shows, comedy, and a bunch of different things with my brother which is really fun. Because of never besmirching the WWE’s name and doing positive things they let me do more, and more, and more so I’ll be continuing to do some things like that.”
Ziggler confirmed that he is currently on a hiatus from WWE. He didn’t act like it was over forever, but he was open to see how things go from here. He is staying busy entertaining people, it just isn’t in a ring right now.
“I can’t really answer that and I don’t want to make some fake thing or some sly thing. For now, I am on a hiatus from WWE. It took me like ten years to get a weekend off and this is it. So we’ll see how it goes. Like I said it’s a handshake different thing than what’s on paper and I’ve given everything and we’ll see if there is more for me to give and I’d be happy to do it.”
Ziggler said if WWE wants to keep him around, then it is going to be in the ring. He could see himself as a producer in about ten years down the line, but it is nothing he is looking to get into right now.
Only time will tell what happens with Dolph Ziggler next, but it might not be a good idea to expect him at the Royal Rumble because he is already booked for a comedy show.

Ziggler on going to AEW: “I think it would be great, I think it would be a great addition to that company”
Although Dolph Ziggler might be busy with his stand-up comedy and acting right now, he did reveal to Chris Van Vliet that he not only thinks that AEW is a great thing, but he could also be a valuable asset to their organization.
“That is fantastic news. Everyone seems like fans at heart who are coming up with everything going into that company. I don’t know much about it, but everything so far seems like they’re trying to give another option for fans who love wrestling people who want something new.”
“Even if you somehow didn’t like them or didn’t like the idea or are pro WWE, the fact that this is happening may create a little back and forth or may make people step up their game or to give people a second place to go where it’s not the end all, be all. That is so good for competition and business and the Superstars together already that if that become successful and they’re going back and forth then it’s good for everybody. The fans and the wrestlers.”
“I’m saying that in a regular way, but this is an awesome thing to happen and it can only go up and be more positive from here.”
Ziggler joked that he wouldn’t be AEW’s next big signing he would be THE big signing. Then he admitted that his plate is full, but AEW should be an option for everybody, including himself.
“You never know. I think it would be great. I think I’d be a great addition to that company who seems to be for true wrestlers who love the sport and the business. It’s a great idea.”
You never know if All Elite Wrestling might pick up on the idea of signing Dolph Ziggler. With his WWE contract in some sort of a question and his current hiatus from WWE, it seems like Dolph Ziggler has more options than just comedy right now.
