“THE ADVERTISING AND razzmatazz seemed to start at that time,” remembers Tony Hanahoe as he looks back on the 1974 All-Ireland football championship.
Ten barren seasons had passed since Dublin last managed to keep Sam in the capital, and their star had plummeted.
‘In 1974 you might have got 1000/1 on Dublin winning the All-Ireland final, we were such non-events.’
That would all change in an instant with one man, Kevin Heffernan, pointing the way.
A new exhibition celebrating Heffo’s life and legacy opens in The Little Museum of Dublin on St Stephen’s Green this week.
Hanahoe, who won two All-Irelands with Heffo’s Dubs, and another as captain and manager in 1977, spoke to The42 on the exhibition’s opening night.
