With Hell in a Cell less than two weeks away, last night’s SmackDown was focused on furthering the build to the pay-per-view.

The story of Samoa Joe taunting AJ Styles’ family continued. After Joe said he might go to Styles’ house this week, he came to the ring and cut a promo where he said the Styles family has started to take his threats seriously and Styles wasn’t at SmackDown. Styles then came out and brawled with Joe.

Joe avoided a chair shot from Styles, referees tried to break the brawl up, and Styles hit a springboard plancha on Joe. Paige ran down to talk to Styles and stop the attack.

Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch took part in a split-screen interview ahead of Hell in a Cell, with it being confirmed that Lynch will challenge for Charlotte’s SmackDown Women’s Championship at the PPV.

Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella’s program with The Miz and Maryse was featured in the opening and closing segments. The Miz and Maryse challenged Bryan and Brie to punch them in the face in the empty arena before the show went on the air. Bryan and Brie then called them out in the opening segment, but Miz and Maryse weren’t at the building. Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega coming out instead led to a match between Bryan and Almas.

The Miz (w/ Maryse) faced R-Truth (w/ Carmella) in the main event, and a distraction from Bryan led to R-Truth getting the win. Almas and Vega interrupted Bryan and Brie attacking Miz and Maryse, but the show ended with Bryan and Brie putting Almas and Vega in the Yes Lock.
