As reported by L’Équipe Ghanian centre-back Alexander Djiku (27) is set to leave Strasbourg for Hoffenheim in a €6m deal. The defender is expected in Germany by this afternoon, with both club’s coming to an agreement today. Djiku is leaving with one year left on his contract.
It was reported earlier this week that Hoffenheim submitted a bid that L’Équipe have now confirmed was €6m, with the Alsatians accepting the German side’s offer.
He was named Ghanian player of the season – but Strasbourg’s president Marc Keller informed the player that he had no intention of extending Djiku’s contract. After this, the centre back was given the green light to leave Strasbourg where Sevilla and Rennes were interested in the defender’s signature – however it looks like Djiku will be heading to Die Kraichgauer and play in the Bundesliga next season.
Djiku has been one of the club’s best performers at Strasbourg in his century of appearances at the club, appearing in 31 games during the last league season and scored one goal. This was in a Julien Stéphan side that impressively managed a 6th place finish in Ligue 1.
