SMSU wrestling tallies first dual wins of the season
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Southwest Minnesota State got pins from Ethan Hildebrandt at 141 pounds, and Jacob Begin at 174 pounds to lift the Mustangs to their first dual win of the season with a 27-15 victory over Waldorf (Iowa). SMSU then fell 25-15 to Wisconsin-La Crosse but rebounded with a 33-10 dual win over Wisconsin-Eau Claire to cap the three-dual day at the Candlewood Suite Duals.
With the dual wins, SMSU improves to 2-2 on the season.
In the 27-15 victory over Waldorf, Justin Reinsma used a 14-8 decision over Raymond McQueen to pull the dual score even at 3-3. Hildebrandt followed with a quick pin of Dillon Spates at 1:08. With a 9-3 lead heading into the 149 pound bout but Waldorf took nine points from the next two bouts with a pin and a win by decision. Kyle Begin stopped the bleeding at 165 pounds with a 5-2 decision over DMonte Aursby. Jacob Begin followed his brothers performance by one-upping him with a pin of Jacob Baumann at 4:48 to give SMSU an 18-12 lead. Micah Larson took six points by a win by forfeit and SMSU would go on to take the bout 27-15.
