Uthman Rabiu was a 12-year-old soccer fanatic who weighed 100 pounds when he emigrated from Nigeria to the United States a decade ago. The only wrestling he knew about was what the kind he saw on TV and featured sleeper holds and power slams.
Now he’s 184 pounds of lean, chiseled muscle, and soccer is nothing more than a hobby. And he’s wrestling for one of the top Division II college programs in the country.
Rabiu, a 2012 Henry Sibley graduate, wrestles for reigning NCAA champion St. Cloud State, where he is ranked No. 4 nationally in the 184-pound weight class with a 6-2 record entering Wednesday’s dual meet with Concordia College in Moorhead.
