The #1 ranked St. Cloud State wrestling team competed at the 2017 North Country Open on Sunday, Jan. 29. This open style tournament was held at nearby St. John’s University and no team scores were kept at the event.

In action at 125-pounds, SCSU’s Jordan Aquino won the top honors with a 3-0 record. In the title bout, Aquino won by a medical forfeit over Victor Gliva of Augsburg. Teammate Brandon Briggs placed third at 125-pounds with a record of 3-1 on the day. He won the third place bout with a 5-2 decision against Arthur Payne of North Dakota State.
At 133-pounds, Jarred Oftedahl won top honors with a 3-0 record that included two falls. In the title bout, Oftedahl won with a fall at 4:30 against Sam Bennyhoff of Augsburg. Mike Rhone placed third at 133-pounds with a 12-4 win over teammate Joel Salomon in the third place bout.
At 141-pounds, Ryan Rodorgio placed third with a 4-1 record. He gained an 8-3 win over Joe Goman of Augsburg in the third place match.
In action at 165-pounds, Josh Berg won the top spot with a 3-0 record for the Huskies. In the title match, Berg won with an 8-2 win over teammate Devin Fitzpatrick. Gabe Fogarty placed third in the tournament with a 3-1 record. At 174-pounds, Austin Rake scored a 5-1 record to place third. In the bout for third place, Rake posted a 7-1 decision over Austin Boniface of Augsburg.
In action at 197-pounds, Adam Josephson placed second with a 2-1 record. In the title bout, Josephson suffered a close 3-1 OT loss to Sebastian Larson of Augsburg. Josephson was a standout football player for the Huskies joining the wrestling team this season.
