As she approaches the one-year anniversary of her arrival in WWE, Ronda Rousey may be in for the single biggest challenge of her reign as Raw Women’s Champion so far. Banks earned her opportunity this Monday night on Raw by defeating Nia Jax via submission, and will get her title match at the upcoming Royal Rumble pay-per-view on January 27th.
“Rowdy” Ronda may have made a huge impact in her first year in pro wrestling, and has certainly been an impressive champion, she has not yet defended her title against a threat with quite as many accolades. While the last year as Bayley’s on-again, off-again best friend may not be a great indication of this, Banks is a former NXT Women’s Champion and a much more impressive four-time Raw Women’s Champion.
Also announced for this month’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view is Brock Lesnar defending his Universal title against Braun Strowman, Daniel Bryan defending the WWE title against AJ Styles, a four-way match for the Cruiserweight Championship, and of course the two traditional 30-person Rumble matches — one for the men, and one for the women.
