After working with Lucha Underground for a few years, it was reported by Sports Illustrated that Rey Mysterio Jr. is now a free agent. Mysterio signed with Lucha Underground in 2015, and his departure has not yet been confirmed by the show or Mysterio himself. Nevertheless, the report insists that Mysterio is not locked into any exclusive deal as of right now. Rey has been working in multiple independent promotions, as well as a few other wrestling promotions in Mexico in his later years. Despite being 42 years old, Mysterio still continues to be one of the most impressive wrestlers in all of North America. So what is next for Rey Mysterio?
Mysterio has stated in the past that he is very comfortable working in Lucha Underground and that he loves the schedule and atmosphere that the show provides. However, Sports Illustrated claims that both Global Force Wrestling and WWE are actively negotiating with Mysterio to join their companies at the moment. GFW is eager to erase Alberto El Patron as the top star due to his recent incidents, but he may be more willing to sign with WWE if they are willing to give his son Dominick, a wrestler in training, a look over at the Performance Center. It definitely appears as though Mysterio will be signing on with either one of those two promotions very shortly.
It was announced earlier this week that Alberto El Patron has officially been stripped of the WAW Championship. The promotion is run by the family of Patron’s girlfriend, Paige. It was announced that Patron will no longer be holding the title and that the decision was announced by Paige’s brother Zak Knight. Patron has been a controversial figure ever since it was announced that he was under investigation for an alleged incident involving himself and Paige at an airport recently. Zak Knight called for his sister to leave Patron following the incident. The title is currently vacant and the promotion will be holding a 32-man tournament to determine a new champion.
