For the first time in the tormentous history of India and Pakistan since the birth of two separate countries in August 1947, the exchange of letters through the postal system has become non-operational.

Even during the bloody days of partition and three wars that the two countries fought, the postal system remained operational, allowing the flow of letters between the countries that was divided at the end of the British Raj.
