As reported by Le Télégramme and Soccer Link, Premier League side Norwich City have made a €16.5m proposal to Ligue 2 club FC Lorient to sign 21-year-old Alexis Claude Maurice.
Les Merlus are understood to be satisfied with the bid, which would make him the most expensive player in Ligue 2 history, but the attacking midfielder has yet to give the deal a green light.
Willie McKay is responsible for the proposals from Norwich this window, as well as the €15m bid that came from West Ham United several weeks ago for the Frenchman. It is not impossible that a bidding war occurs in the last hours of the English market that raises the price even more.
The player’s entourage had not made a move to England this summer a priority and instead want their client to join a club who can offer him regular playing time with a stable footballing project.
OGC Nice are expected to have the player’s favour, but have yet to make a formal bid and will not do so until Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover is complete. Rennes are also understood to have put in a €12m bid over the weekend, as they search for a replacement for Ismaila Sarr.
