NJPW G1 Special in San Francisco Results
July 7, 2018
– WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross and UFC icon Josh Barnett welcome us to the world famous Cow Palace in San Francisco, CA as the Bullet Club makes their way to the ring to kick off tonight’s show.
TAMA TANGA, TANGA LOA, KING HAKU, YUJIRO TAKAHASHI & CHASE OWENS vs. YOSHI-HASHI, ROPPONGI 3K, ROCKY ROMERO & GEDO
The crowd went nuts for the return of the legend, with loud “King Haku” chants, but they absolutely exploded when Tama Tanga tagged in later in the match. He was easily the most popular star in this opening bout. They worked a short back-and-forth match with Bullet Club controlling most of the action, and the Chaos guys all trying to mount comebacks but falling short due to the numbers game. Things eventually broke down into an all-out brawl with Roppongi doing dives to the outside, and Romero following them with another dive into a pile of humanity. Great finish with Haku grabbing Gedo by the beard to break up a pin – the crowd popped big time – sending him flying into a Gun Stun from his son.
MINORU SUZUKI & ZACK SABRE JR. vs. TOMOHIRO ISHII & TORU YANO
Minoru Suzuki came out to a new arrangement of his classic theme song. Kaze Ni Nare is still intact, don’t worry. Suzuki and Ishii went right after each other with wild rights and lefts to get things started. Yano tried his usual shenanigans but he’s in the ring neighborhood and got tied into a pretzel and stretched out by both opponents. Things eventually boiled down to Suzuki and Ishii again, going back and forth with brutal forearm shots and slaps until they brawled out to ringside and seemed to not even care that there was a match going on. Yano tried to low blow Sabre, who caught his arm but turned around into a wicked lariat from Ishii. Yano rolled him up to steal a surprise victory in another great finishing spot. After the bout Suzuki lost his mind and started throwing around Young Lions, beating one of them with a chair before leaving.
