Mavericks Win First Two Duals of the Season

Mankato, Minn— The Minnesota State wrestling team (2-0, 1-0 NSIC) competed in their first two duals of the season at the Taylor Center Sunday. Facing off against Truman State and Minot State in the afternoon, the Mavericks were able to claim two decisive victories on the day.

The Mavericks first took the mat against Truman State. Minnesota State fell behind early by six points but would win the next nine matches to defeat Truman State by a score of 49-6. A 7-2 decision by Paul Selman (So., 141 lbs.) over Caleb Osborn would put the Mavericks on the board and a pin in 1:46 by Louie Sanders (R-Fr., 141) against Rafael Lopez helped the Mavericks overcome the early deficit.

Against Minot State the Mavericks traded results in the first four matches of the contest. A 10-1 major decision by Selman and an 8-1 decision by Close, kept the match within reach for the Mavericks early on. The Mavericks then won the next six matches against Minot State to finish with a score of 36-6.

Saltou won his 15th match of the season by pinning Shane Sheppard in 6:23. Zach Johnston (Fr., 165) won by injury default against Parker Osterman.
