Speaking following Marseille’s 2-0 win over Sporting Lisbon last night, midfielder and captain Mattéo Guendouzi hopes OM can continue their good form in the Champions League, after his side got their second European win in a row this season. As transcribed by L’Équipe, Guendouzi said the following:
“We rectified the start of the game compared to the first leg. They tried to come very high to press us, we managed to break their pressure very well with some very good runs, it was really interesting to show them from the start that we weren’t afraid, that we had personality, that we were aware of our qualities. We showed that from the start of the game and a very good result followed. If we continue on this path, we will achieve great things.”
Guendouzi scored a penalty in a a game in which fellow former Arsenal man Alexis Sánchez scored a goal for the Olympians, as well as being aided by two red cards as Sporting went down to nine men. However, it opens up group D for the Ligue 1 side – which opens the possibility of seeing OM progress if they get positive results in the next few fixtures.
