Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard was spotted attending a Ligue 1 encounter today between Rennes and St Étienne, as the Norwegian teenager appears to be on the verge of joining the former side on loan next month for the remainder of the season.

Odegaard, who made his first competitive start for Zinedine Zidane in the Spanish Cup in midweek, was in talks with SRFC in summer but was blocked from moving there on loan owing to the fact that FIFA deemed him to be young to do so.

Rennes Sporting Director Mikaël Silvestre had no intention of giving up however and has remained in constant contact with Los Blancos since the start of the 2016/17 campaign.

Zinedine Zidane himself is the man who is recommending Odegaard to join Rennes on loan, with the belief from the Real Madrid manager being that a stint in Ligue 1 would be excellent for the diminutive midfielder’s development.

More undoubtedly to follow in the coming weeks…
