France Football report that Senegalese international central midfielder Idrissa Gueye was closer to a January move to PSG than many might expect, but that the deal ultimately fell through when The Toffees’ replacement choice, Lyon’s Lucas Tousart, rejected them.

PSG did not want to pay the €40m demanded by Everton for ex-Lille and Aston Villa central midfielder Gueye, and EFC were only willing to negotiate if they were able to sign a replacement – they looked at Abdoulaye Doucouré (Watford), but he was quickly dismissed on the grounds that he was too expensive.

Lucas Tousart was the other option, but the ex-Valenciennes defensive midfielder rejected Marco Silva’s side and an additional proposal from Zenit St Petersburg in January in order to remain with Lyon in Ligue 1.
