As reported by L’Équipe, Lyon attacking midfielder Lucas Paquetá has asked to leave Lyon this summer.

Having returned from his native Brazil on Thursday, the 24-year-old played 45 minutes in OL’s 4-2 preseason friendly win over local third tier club Bourg-en-Bresse yesterday. However, the club are planning on allowing the player to leave this off-season if they receive a sufficient bid.

Newcastle United were the most recent club to try to persuade Lucas Paquetá to join them this summer and OL rejected an approach from the Magpies in the winter after the English club completed the signing of the midfielder’s great friend and countryman Bruno Guimarães, of whom Paquetá said: “I will miss you so much, on and off the pitch.”

Having joined Lyon from AC Milan in 2020, the Brazilian international (33 caps, seven goals) has made 78 outings for the French club, scoring 21 times and adding 13 assists having been moved around the team, playing as a number 10, deep in midfield, as a false nine and occasionally on the right wing.
