Former-WWE Women’s Champion Lita was on Ring The Belle recently, alongside her longtime friend/rival Trish Stratus. During the show, Lita addressed her controversial retirement. For those that don’t know, Lita lost her retirement match to Mickie James at Survivor Series 2006. After the match, Shad Gaspard & JTG came out and had a “ho sale,” auctioning off Lita’s clothes and property. Many felt it was the wrong way to celebrate the legacy of one of WWE’s pioneering female talents. Lita appears to have agreed, saying that she tried to get the angle changed.

“I mean, I’ve always been the red-headed step child and it was not gonna end any different way. I was literally the red-headed, step child. It’s ok,” Lita said with a chuckle. “I never was quiet about it. I was super uncool with it. I went up the chain. I went to the producers, I went to the writers, I went to Vince, I went back to the producers, back to the writers, back to Vince. It was a hard, ‘no’.”
The retirement was a stark contrast to Stratus’s, who won the Women’s Championship from Lita at Unforgiven 2006, in a match heralded by many as one of the best women’s matches of the era.
