WWE is always looking to hire some of the brightest young talent that dominate the indy wrestling scene these days. That’s why it looks like none other than Lio Rush is about to make the jump over to the NXT brand. PWInsider has reported that the young wrestler has been offered a deal for NXT and that he has been on the company’s radar for a while. Rush already gave his notice to Ring of Honor back in March, and he has confirmed that August 5th will be his final show for CZW. Rush previously teamed with Patrick Clark (NXT’s Velveteen Dream) before the latter was signed. Rush signing with WWE is said to be happening imminently.
Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio show, clarified his earlier report that Austin Aries had asked to be released from his contract. Aries was said to be very much unpopular with some of the crew and WWE creative staff, and that he did not actually ask to be released. While Aries was not pleased with how the company was using him, there is said to be more to the story than Austin simply deciding to just leave the company outright. Austin Aries is not permitted to work for any wrestling promotion with national television exposure until October as per the 90-day no-compete clause that each WWE personnel must agree to before signing a contract.
As we get closer to the tapings of the upcoming Mae Young Classic tournament, we are beginning to learn more about what will be going on. WWE Hall of Famer Alundra Blayze (formerly Madusa) recently alerted fans that she is going to be working with WWE on the tournament. Her role in the tournament has not yet been revealed, but it is said that she is going to be presenting the winner of the tournament with trophy during the live finale from Las Vegas this September. It is also possible that she could be working as a producer backstage for the tournament as well. Be on the lookout for Blayze returning to WWE later this year.
