Hollywood actors and supermodels aren’t the only fashion stars who know how to work a red carpet, and athletes from many disciplines proved it Tuesday night at the second annual Sports Illustrated Fashionable 50 event.
The sporty fashionistas flocked to the Los Angeles hotspot Avenue while dressed to the nines, and some of them even walked away with awards.
But who took home the most coveted title of SI’s fashion MVP for 2017? None other than Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook, who gushed to InStyle about what style means to him.

“I think fashion is an unbelievable platform for athletes all across the world, to be able to express themselves in different ways,” he said. “It’s important to be able to take that next jump and be able to understand and create your own trend, create your own step, and pave your own way, and be able to do that in fashion.”
And taking the next jump for skier Lindsey Vonn for once didn’t refer to catching air while on the slopes. On Tuesday, it meant wearing a classic white Armani suit while accepting SI‘s Confidence Award.

“This is the first time I’ve been on the list. I enjoy fashion, and I’ve been trying to get more into it, so I feel like this is a pat on the back, that I have been doing a good job, and it makes me feel good,” she told InStyle.
“I love showing my femininity. When I’m in my workout clothes all the time and I’m on the slopes, I’m always covered up. And I feel quite masculine,” she said. “It’s nice to show off my femininity, like I said, and just be confident, embrace my body, and do something different.”
The World Cup winner also offered her best fashion advice for women.
“I think No. 1 is be yourself, but also be aware of your body type,” she said. “Everyone’s body is different, so you just have to figure out what kind of clothes look best on your body, because everyone’s beautiful, but it’s maximizing everyone’s beauty.”

With the Bachelorette finale only a few weeks away, it won’t be long until fans see who Lindsey picks as her fiancé, but whomever he is, he was not thrilled about having to miss the Sports Illustrated event.
“My fiancé is a huge sports fan, so he’s 100 percent jealous that he is not out here with me right now, and I’m bragging about it, believe me, when I get home,” she said.
