L’Équipe report today that 60% of Ligue 1 referees would not be against of an experiment which would see them wear microphones during matches they officiate.
A work group based set up by the LFP – the governing body of France’s two professional divisions – is set to have its first meeting this afternoon, with the referees themselves generally favouring the implementation of new rules pushed for by president Vincent Labrune.

The referees’ union had consulted its members who operate in Ligue 1 and 2, around 100 officials, in order to put forward their own suggestions on November 21, when the second meeting will take place. A poll taken in July saw 14/20 of the referees working in the top division not disagree to the use of microphones, although this change would also require approval on the part of IFAB, the international governing body of refereeing.
