As reported by L’Équipe, in speaking before Marseille’s final day Ligue 1 match with Strasbourg, OM coach Jorge Sampaoli said he was unsure over his future, seemingly sending the club’s hiercahy a message over a mooted contract extension. When asked if he would be Marseille’s manager next season, Sampaoli explained:

“I don’t know. I’m only thinking of the goal that we’re trying to achieve. The question is, do we want to be in the Champions League for money or to be competitive in this competition? You have to be clear, be sincere and not lie to anyone… There is the possibility, or not, of building a Champions League team, because we face very big clubs with big budgets, big squads and great coaches. Do we want to belong in this competition? It’s up to the club to be sincere on this. I know that OM is a very media-friendly club, with enormous support, but the resources have to match that.”
