SUWANEE, GA – After a month of practicing during Georgia’s stay-at-home order, a local father captured a remarkable moment in his young son’s life: his first home run.
Cory Willig, a retired professional baseball player and local hitting instructor a D-Bat Johns Creek, posted the video to his Instagram of his 4-year-old son Ash at the plate of a baseball diamond in Suwanee on May 1. After a pitch from Cory, Ash took a big swing and sent a softball flying over centerfield into a line of trees.

He also had the best reaction: as Ash ran the bases, Willig jumped for joy, cheering him on in elated disbelief.
“All those times in front of our house this past month paid off!” Willig said in the post. “So proud of you son!”
According to the post, Ash was wearing his new Ronald Acuna jersey, the 2018 NLB Rookie of the Year outfielder who plays for the Atlanta Braves.
Willig has captured his son’s baseball journey on his Instagram page over the years and most recently has featured videos of the two of them practicing in the front yard of their home while complying with the stay at home order to help stop the spread of the new coronavirus.
The video now has over 120,000 views and 630 comments.
