Brett Kavanaugh, who has been nominated by Donald Trump to fill the vacant seat on the US Supreme Court, is a pillar of the Republican legal establishment who earned the nickname "Forrest Gump" after being involved in a series of moments of huge import in modern American history. Unlike Forrest Gump, Judge Kavanaugh is regarded on all sides as one of the most brilliant jurists of his generation.
