As reported by L’Équipe, Spanish cup winners Real Betis are pushing to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar this summer.
The 24-year-old French international midfielder has just one year left on his current contract at OL and is expected to be allowed to leave the club this summer. Interest in the player has been long-running from across the continent but it has grown increasingly vague over the last two seasons as the OL man’s form has deteriorated, following his rejection of a major move to Arsenal two summers ago.
OGC Nice were reported as interested in the player last month while Real Betis, Real Sociedad and two unnamed English clubs were also keen back in May. However, Betis’ interest has persisted over several months, say the sports daily, and a meeting between the parties is scheduled for today.
Although Aouar prefers a move to the Premier League, he’s open to joining the Spanish club who have accelerated their efforts in recent days. Valued at just €15m earlier in the summer by OL, Aouar is expected to take his time over any decision on his future.
