A Serbian middle-blocker, Andrija Geric, born in 1977, has retired after a long and successful career. Geric won the Olympic gold medal in Sydney 2000 and bronze in Atlanta four years later with Yugoslavian National team.

Geric returned to play with his hometown team (Vojvodina Novi Sad, Serbia) winning the national cup during the last season. However, the best part of his professional career, he spend in Macerata, Italy. Having spent six seasons there, Geric won the Italian Championship (1), Champions League (1), CEV Cup (3), Italian Cup (1), and two Italian Super Cups. Moreover, the middle-blocker played in two other Italian clubs – Montichiari and Latina.

Then, he also performed in Panathinaikos Athens and Fenerbahce Istanbul.

Andrija Geric was a volleyball icon for volleyball fans in Serbia and Montenegro. ‘For ages’, he has caused panic among his opponents in the Italian Serie A and international competitions, which has been trying to avoid his killing block. Unfortunately, each athlete has to ever hang up his boots.
