When Lieutenant Franco Albrecht was arrested in 2017 on charges of planning to carry out a false flag terror attack, the extraordinary tale of him posing as a refugee made headlines around the world.

But almost two years after the German army officer was discovered living a double life and posing as a Syrian immigrant, questions are being asked over why the case remains unresolved.

Prosecutors at the time accused Lt Albrecht of plotting to assassinate public figures and blame the killings on asylum-seekers, and there were fears a far-Right terror cell was operating inside the German military.

Now, Lt Albrecht has been released from custody and the charges against other soldiers have been dropped….
