MINNEAPOLIS — InterMat has released recruiting class rankings for 2018.
Penn State has landed the nation’s No. 1 class. This absurdly strong class features six of the top 20 recruits and a seventh within the top 40. Joe Lee, true freshman All-American Nick’s younger brother, and Cadet world champion Aaron Brooks address the middle, while Michael Beard and Seth Nevills cover the back couple of weight classes.
Ohio State comes in at No. 2 after landing an incredible nine top 100 recruits, though just two reside in the top 20. In total this class covers every weight class except for 285 pounds and possibly 133 pounds.
Familiarity is the theme in North Carolina State’s class, which ranks third. The class is anchored by Hayden Hidlay’s younger but bigger (in size) brother Trent Hidlay, as well as the dynamite lightweight Jakob Camacho, who graduated from the same high school as three-time All-American Kevin Jack.
Minnesota ranks No. 4 after landing the nation’s No. 1 recruit Gable Steveson, a three-time age-group world champion in freestyle, as well as four other top 100 recruits.
Nebraska rounds out the top five with three top 35 recruits.
