Jens Laugesen ís the great exponent of modern, sensually androgynous tailoring. For Spring Summer 06 he showed sophisticated asymmetry in black or white or a mixture of the two.
The London-based Danish born designer knows how to mix the conceptual with the commercial. Oversized waistcoats were worn over jersey dresses, button-ruched skirts hinted at volume, but were never ballooned. A quiet nod to 60s mod with a black and white tuxedo dress was one of the strongest pieces.
Silk and tulle mixed with cotton: a sheer black layer worn over a ballooning dress or juxtaposed with a symmetric graphic. Beautifully tailored double breasted jackets and slim trousers show that Laugesen can mix more fluid and contemporary cuts with his conceptual tailoring.
Laugesen is a three-time New Generation winner and also designs a successful utilitarian collection for TopShop.
